Humanitarian Aid Worker and Independent Consultant

Sonya has been an independent consultant in the last 7 years providing consultancies for humanitarian and development organizations post disaster. Her main work in this field has focused on managing projects and implementation of development and emergency programs, information management and providing advice on policy and public administration issues.

Before that, Sonya did a variety of jobs which include the work as a government official in the Indonesian department of internal affairs for almost 5 years. This latter job has linked her indirectly to which she is now committed to.

She has been involved in the humanitarian and development world since her first assignment in the emergency response 2005 post Tsunami and Earthquake in Aceh, Indonesia immediately after the disaster. First to support Bokarnas (National Disaster Management Coordinating Board) and then worked for the UNOCHA to help address both outstanding humanitarian needs, whilst supporting local authorities for coordination of recovery and reconstruction activities. From 2009 to 2010 she was working in Myanmar with Solidarités International managing various emergency and recovery projects from construction of basic shelters and latrines for displaced households, carried out school/storm shelter construction baseline and feasibility assessment to managing livelihood recovery programme.

Sonya has recently returned from a consultancy mission in Haiti with World Vision International.
